Asus plugs into the micro-PC scene with the Vivo Stick

Is the stick PC the evolution of home computing?

With a bit of a push from Intel who showed others what is possible, we are now seeing some new innovations in the “pc stick” category. This is a new category of computing and it’s interesting for sure. The question is whether this is a true evolution of home computing and is it headed for the mainstream.
Firstly, people aren’t exactly sure what to call these devices. Is it a “stick pc” or “pc stick”? I mean, how do you explain what it is? It’s a functional PC that’s on a thumb drive style form factor. Is it a “pen PC”? How about “pocket pc”? You will likely see a few variations as these product evolve.
Certainly the stick PC could replace settop boxes. However, this partially depends on monitors and displays. Most in 2015 and beyond are going to feature multiple HDMI ports. With the interest in these stick style computers, the forward thinking companies will be adding convenient HDMI ports into their televisions.
If you saw the Intel unveiling of their newest processor, it’s easy to see how powerful these stick PCs can become. That’s coming up real fast and the growth of these devices should skyrocket.
Intel is pusing the boundaries and the PC needs innovation. Windows and Microsoft also need this innovation. As a result, the money and special interests means the stick PC will get strong support and marketing. With the VivoStick selling for $129, it’s a remarkable concept. Affordable and without compromise in terms of the Windows 10 operating system.
