Recently,Opera added VPN support to its browser. Now Opera browser has been updated with a new power saving feature that, according to the company's claims, can extend the laptop's battery life by up to 50%.
"Depending on the type of your hardware, it can mean several hours of more browsing before you need to recharge your laptop," said Opera in a blog post.
Activating the power saving feature is easy. When the laptop is unplugged from the mains power supply, a small battery icon automatically appears next to the search and address field in the Opera browser. Users just need to click on the battery icon to activate the power saving mode.
In case you forget to switch on the power saving mode, the browser would automatically notify you to do so once the laptop's battery reaches at 20%.
Opera says it has made several under-the-hood optimizations to deliver the power saving feature. The feature conserves power by actions such as reducing the background activity in tabs, waking the CPU less often and automatically disabling unused plug-ins.
"In our tests, designed to reflect the way people use browsers in real life, the latest Opera developer version was able to run 50% longer than other browsers like Google Chrome on a laptop running Windows 10 64-bit," said Opera. The company has additionally worked on improving the browser's VPN experience. Based on user feedback, the company has combined browser's VPN feature with private browsing mode. The company has also resolved an issue where the original IP of the device could be found by the webpage through a Web RTC connection.
